In accordance with CWA Local 1298 By-Laws Article XIV, elections will be held for the following Executive Board positions: President, Secretary-Treasurer, VP Headquarters, VP Plant 1, VP Plant 2, and VP Commercial Marketing. Any member in good standing for a period of two (2) calendar years is eligible to be nominated. To be eligible, candidates for the positions of VP Plant 1, VP Plant 2, VP Headquarters, and VP Commercial Marketing must submit petitions with a minimum of 5% of the members that are in good standing within their respective departments. Candidates for President and Secretary-Treasurer must submit petitions with a minimum of 5% of the general membership. Members may sign petitions for more than one candidate, but only one time for each individual candidate.         On September 8, 2017, CWA Local 1298 membership lists will be available for potential candidates to view at CWA Local 1298 Headquarters, 3055 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 by appointment only. This list is a “Snap Shot” of the membership list as of September 8, 2017. Any members added to the Local after this time will be eligible to vote in this year’s election. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Election Committee at (203) 230-5730 or by email at elect@cwa1298.org.  Beginning on September 15, 2017, through September 29, 2017, petitions will be available for pick-up from 9 AM – 4 PM. Petitions must be obtained by the candidate or his/her designee. If the candidate elects to use a designee for pick-up, the Election Committee must be notified prior to pick-up. A valid ID is required for all persons picking up petitions.         Petitions must be returned with a passport-sized photograph and a 300 word essay by September 29, 2017, 4 PM, at CWA Local 1298 Headquarters. By October 6, 2017, all petitions will be verified by the Election Committee. The eligible candidates will be announced via the 1298 website, cwa1298.org, by 5 PM on that date, or may be obtained by calling 1298 headquarters. All candidates are encouraged to return the petitions as soon as possible to speed up the verification process.         On October 12, 2017, at 6pm, Candidates Night will be held at Zandri’s Stillwood Inn in Wallingford. All members are invited to attend and ask the candidates questions to help them decide who is best suited to lead our Union for the next three years.         If there is only one qualified candidate for a local executive board position, that person shall be elected by acclimation. If two (2) or more candidates emerge for a board position, an election will be conducted as follows:         Ballots will be mailed on Monday, October 16, 2017. The voting period will end at 12:00 noon on November 6, 2017 and will be counted later that day. Results will be available on the CWA 1298 website that evening. Ballots received at the American Arbitration Association after 12:00 noon on November 6, 2017 will be void.
