Karzimierz "Chuck" Szymczyk, age 68, of Old Lyme, was unexpectedly stricken during a family vacation in North Carolina, and passed away Oct. 13, 2021.


After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he began a career with SNET, working for four companies without ever changing jobs, until his retirement from Frontier Communications in 2017. He took every opportunity to express his love to and for his family, and lent a helping hand to anyone in need. Big, strong and gentle, he was a great help to his father-in-law Tex, also his hunting partner and friend, who preceded Chuck in death by seven weeks.


Chuck is survived by his wife Donna of Old Lyme; his sons, Jeff (wife Katie) and Eric (wife Kirsten); and his grandchildren, (Hunter, Riley, Raylan and Ashley, all of Raleigh, N.C.; his sister Laura (husband Bill) Lewis; his brother Ted (wife Nancy) Szymczyk; his cherished nephew Mark (wife Laurie); and his great-niece and nephew, Lindsay and Jeremy, all of North Carolina. He will also be greatly missed by his mother-in-law Helene Teixeira; as well as many friends and extended family members in Connecticut.


There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road, in Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to TBBCF, 187 Williams St., New London, CT 06320 or the Old Lyme Fire Department, PO Box 102, Old Lyme, CT 06371.
