A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Smarty's Restaurant and Pub, 215 Main St., Niantic.

East Lyme - James Franklin Shields Jr., 63, of Latimer Drive, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, with his family by his side at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Born in Augusta, Ga., he was the son of James F. Shields Sr. and Catherine A. Howell. He was the loving husband of Linda (VonIns) Shields of East Lyme. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for many years as a lineman for the various names of the phone company. Growing up in Georgia, he continued to root for his beloved Atlanta Falcons.
James was a great, loving, giving, caring man to his family and friends. He absolutely adored his grandbabies. He was the hardest working man we all knew and loved.
James is survived by his two daughters, Amanda (Shields) Bonano and Krista (Shields) Butler, both of Waterford; his two grandbabies, Silas James Shields and Amélie Elizabeth Bonano.
He is predeceased by his younger brother, Lance Fly Shields
