Inez Petaway-Jaynes, 77 of Hamden, departed this life on Friday November 27, 2020 with members of her loving family by her side. She was born, September 29, 1943 in New Haven, CT. to the late William Petaway, Sr. and Magdalene (Maggie) Meeks Petaway.
Inez Petaway and Harold Jaynes Sr. joined holy matrimony on March 20, 1959, through this union they were blessed with 6 children. She also adopted and raised two of her sisters’ children after she passed away.


Inez attended classes at the University of Connecticut as well as Pace University. She graduated from James Hillhouse High, Troup Junior High and Baldwin Elementary Schools.


Inez worked at the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles until she retired after 27 years.
She was an avid bowler. She was awarded most improved in the Amity, Thursday Nite Mixed League in the 2007-2008 Season. She also bowled in the Sunday Nite mixed League in Hamden then in Milford after Hamden Lanes closed permanently.


Inez was a long-time member of Living Word Ministries and Vertical Church. She completed New Believers class in 1998. She served in the Children’ Ministries for many years. She assisted Mrs. Juliette Gorham and Pastor Jeff Schlemmer with youth and many of her grandchildren. She spent her lifetime as a provider, both as a caregiver and mother/grandmother/etc. and also in her legacy.


She leaves to cherish her loving lasting memories daughters; Pamela Michelle Rhonda Outlaw of Hamden, Earlene of New Haven, Dorothea of Waterbury, Tracy Nicholson of Northford. Son; Andre Jaynes, Sr. (Michelle) of Manassas Park, VA. Sisters; Ruby McKiever (Tim) of West Haven, Glorious Robinson, Dorothy Mooring, Diane Petaway of New Haven, Irene Kirtz of Philadelphia, PA. Brothers; William Petaway Jr (Essie), Franklin Wells (Daisy) of Hamden and Leroy Petaway of Los Angeles, CA. 33 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.


Inez was predeceased by her sons; Harold E Jaynes Jr., and William David Outlaw; Sisters; Delores Outlaw, Ramona Conley. Brothers; Natheniel and Wilbur Petaway, grandsons; Walter Marquese Jaynes and Damien Connor.


She was adored by family, friends, and church community and beyond, for the remarkable woman that she was.
