Late December will be the two-year anniversary of 'basket raffles for charity' at the Stratford, Connecticut engineering office. Karen Cook works tirelessly, with help from Leslie Schiebe and Jan Possidente-Russo, to procure items for baskets that get raffled off at every major holiday, with the proceeds going to local charities in the Bridgeport area.

"I decided to do something two years ago because I made a basket for my son's school that was raffled off for Thanksgiving," Karen said. "The Bridgeport  Community Service Fund committee was having a meeting at our Stratford office so I approached them with the idea of baskets. Jan, Leslie, and I put five baskets together that year, each with its own theme. We raffled them off at our Christmas Luncheon."

She added that they kept going with the raffles for every occasion, including pies for Thanksgiving and Easters from a local store who donates $5 for each pie to the CSF.

To date, the team has raised $6,272 for the Bridgeport Community Service Fund since 2016. They all so this on their own time and with their own money, with plenty of donations from local businesses. We thank them and all who make the holiday brighter for others.
