Today's  announcement of the acquisition of AT&T East in Connecticut by Frontier Communications has taken us all by surprise.  We began our day with a call from CEO Maggie Wilderotter, and Executive Vice President Cecilia McKenney, and Sr. Vice President of Labor Relations Robert Costaglioda.  During this call, the union was encouraged by the  Frontiers reassurance that they are  committed to honoring  the present bargaining agreement.  They reiterated their intention to acquire all wireline and U-Verse operations in Connecticut the first quarter of next year.  They will not acquire the E911 Interstate and Interstate Long Distance. The Union has many concerns about work force levels,  pensions, 401k and benefits, to name a few.  Frontier has assured us that the workforce levels are to remain the same, and that the pension and other benefits will not be changing. They have committed to working with the union.  They have also explained that they intend to have in in-state dispatch center.  That would be good news for employees and customers here in Connecticut. Frontier explained that although they use different administrators for benefit plans, they will not change the level of our benefits.  Frontier's Corporate headquarters is based in Stamford CT.  Frontier professes to be a "hands on company" with good union relations.  Their current expectation is to move their regional headquarters to New Haven, and their state headquarters to Hartford.  There are many questions in our members minds, that can not be answered in a mere telephone call.   We appreciate the effort on behalf of  Frontier to reach out to the Union, because, as we all know, this is not the same kind of respectful treatment we have received from AT&T in the past.     The Union is currently evaluating the effects of this acquisition on our members.  We are in contact with the Attorney General and the Governor and will do everything we can to protect our members best interest.   We expect to meet with  Frontier leadership tomorrow morning in Stamford.
