Congressman Joe Courtney visited our New London call center this week during their annual picnic sponsored by their rec. committee. As he toured the office he talked to our members as well as the company about the importance of supporting our local economy by hiring locally and making sure Frontier continues their commitment to invest by hiring new employees into the call center. If you are not already aware Congressman Courtney is a true ally of CWA Local 1298 and is a co-sponsor of H.R. 1300 -United States Call Center Worker and Consumer Protection Act of 2017.
In the past few years, thousands of customer service jobs in the United States have disappeared. But demand isn't shrinking and profits aren't down. Companies already making billions off of U.S. consumers are shipping good jobs overseas to call centers in Mexico, India, and the Philippines. These big corporations are boosting their profits at the expense of our jobs and our communities. A Big Thanks to our members that called and pushed their members of Congress to sign on to the federal call center bill. We need to let Congress know that keeping American workers employed and our communities strong should be their top priority.
