CWA Local 1298 is currently dealing with the effects of CT policy makers showing no regard for safety and CWA union jobs in CT. PURA has and is continuing to adopt policies that create potential safety concerns as they relate to pole attachments. These PURA dockets, discussions and changes do little to nothing to expand broadband to rural areas in our state. The federal broadband infrastructure investment dollars are targeted to do just that. CWA is engaging elected officials in Washington DC to tell them that we need high speed, affordable broadband and good jobs in our communities. Any bill that contains funding for broadband infrastructure should protect the work union members do today, protect good union jobs from outsourcing, and protect workers' right to organize a union.

Build Broadband Better

"If the pandemic taught us anything, it taught us that everybody needs broadband. It's like electricity or water," said CWA President Chris Shelton. "CWA has been pushing for universal high speed internet access for 15 years. We support a shared partnership between private companies and the federal government to get this done. But Congress needs to make sure it's done right, with experienced, trained union workers, not low-wage subcontractors who make a quick buck and skip town."
