Paul Shimwell, 54, of Wethersfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Callahan) Shimwell. Paul was born in London, England on July 5, 1964, son of Richard and Penelope (Joel) Shimwell. Paul worked for the telephone company for more than 30 years. A dedicated and hard-working man, he knew how to enjoy his free time with his beloved family and friends. Paul possessed a quiet strength, and once a friend, he was a friend for life. When he had the time, he loved to go deep-sea fishing, proudly displaying the catch of the day and sharing the tale of how it was caught. He also enjoyed mountain biking and camping. Above all, his favorite activity was attending his sons’ sports games – especially soccer and wrestling, at which they both excelled. He was extremely proud of the man his son, Christopher was becoming. Besides his wife of 22 years, Paul is survived by his two sons, Christopher Shimwell and Nicholas Kolosky both of Wethersfield; a granddaughter, Mya and two nieces, Stella Aliano and Jasmin Callahan, all of whom he cherished deeply; his father, Richard Shimwell of Branford; two sisters, Samantha Strott of Clinton and Louise Aliano and her husband Sal of Wethersfield; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Sandra Gaetani of Newington and a brother-in-law, Timothy Callahan and his wife Linda of Glastonbury. He was predeceased by his mother, Penelope Shimwell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church) 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3-6pm at D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. To share a photo of Paul or leave an expression of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com
