Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 12 noon, at St. Mary’s Church, 76 Sharon Road, Lakeville, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of family in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, George has requested donations be made to St. Mary’s Church or his alma mater Notre Dame High School (class of 61), 220 Jefferson Street, Fairfield CT, 06825.
George M. Sherwood, 70, of Lakeville CT, formerly from Trumbull, passed away peacefully at Greenwich Hospital January 23, 2014.
The son of Dorothy (Larney) and George A. Sherwood, he was born June 29, 1943, at St. Vincent’s Hospital Bridgeport, CT.
A graduate of Notre Dame High School (’61), a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. A dedicated employee of The Southern New England Telephone company . George was President of the Connecticut Union of Telephone Workers from 1985 - 1987. Before being elected President he was the Plant Departmental Vice President from 1973-1978. He retired in 1990.
George was a beloved husband, wonderful son, the big brother, best dad, favorite uncle, fun cousin, good godson, #1 grandpa and avid baseball fan and movie buff.
Heaven has one special place just for you, we weren’t ready to let you go but we know you will enjoy eternal life with the lord until we meet again.
George is survived by his wife Sandra, two daughters SunHe Sherwood, Dudley and Husband Paul of Southampton, N.Y., Tina Romanello and husband Dan of Greenwich, CT; 5 siblings, Robert and wife Cathy, Peter, John and his wife Becky, Mary Smith and husband Jim, Katie Wood and Husband Jim. 5 Grandchildren Julia, Alexandra, Samantha, James and Pace and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
