Message from CWA 1298 President Dave Weidlich
We all heard the rumors throughout the day yesterday related to Verizon acquiring Frontier Communications. Late last night I was notified that there would be an official press release this morning at 6 AM announcing the news. From what was released, we know that both companies will remain entirely independent prior to closing, which is expected to occur in the next 18 months, subject to customary legal, regulatory and shareholder approvals. While there are many questions about the future with Verizon, we still have our business to take care of at the bargaining table. We will continue to bargain with Frontier Communications to reach a successor agreement. We need to maintain our commitment to achieve a fair and just contract. Job security is critically important as we approach this transition to Verizon. Our goals have not changed at the bargaining table. We spent this week working on our Union proposals, and the company will make a benefit presentation when we resume bargaining on Monday. Remember when we Fight, we Win!!
