His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Saturday, July 2, from 9 until 10:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford. WALLINGFORD - Steven G. Chmielewski, 69, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Nancy Murray Chmielewski, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Steven was born in Naugatuck, March 23, 1947, a son of the late Thaddeus Chmielewski and Josephine Citak Chmielewski and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. Steven was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the First Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, and had been employed by S.N.E.T. until his retirement. He was also a member of the VFW Post 591 in Wallingford.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his step-son, Mark Freeman and his wife, Susan, of East Haddam; two granddaughters, Molly and Julia Freeman; his brothers, Thaddeus Chmielewski and his wife, Connie, of Northford, and John Chmielewski and his wife, Beth, of Waterbury; his sisters-in-law, Carol Chmielewski, of Arizona, and Sheila Whyte, of Tennessee; his brother-in-law, William Murray and his wife, Linda, of Hamden; his aunt, Stephanie Witteman, of Florida; and many nieces; nephews; and cousins.
