Message from President, Dave Weidlech
On Wednesday, we attended the second Frontier-Verizon change of control hearing at PURA in New Britain. There were more questions asked by the Office of Consumer Counsel to Verizon and Frontier witnesses. The next step of the process is for the parties to write their briefs which are due on March 21st. On May 12th the proposed final decision with be filed and written exceptions to the decision will be due on May 21st. The final decision is scheduled for June 11th. All these dates are subject to change by the Authority. Please check the Docket, (24-11-06) on the PURA website for for more detail.
On Thursday, I testified at the CT state capital in support of Senate Bill 4 which includes language to have the Labor Unions, and the companies collaborate on emergency restoration issues. This gives us a voice in the process of addressing the many concerns we have that the employer has not been addressing. We hope at some point emergencies will be handled safely and in a far more responsible way by Frontier. Additionally, Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 6904 passed through the Labor Committee. These bills provide Unemployment for Striking Workers after the first 2 weeks of a strike. Next steps are passing the House and Senate! These bills can be found on the CT General Assembly website.
